This Birch Series is my first attempt to translate my idea of line and form to wood. They are reflective of a moment of my life in transition. The wood in the panels is birch which are residual material from the renovation of my studio attic. Small leftover pieces of wood ideal for this series. Each piece was sanded then sketched on in preparation for the woodburner. Afterwards, light applications of various stains give each a distinct color and sense of experiment. I then varnished and sanded the panels before making each a custom frame. The wood I use for my frames is mainly brickmolding and trim. They are overlooked scraps of wood from a family door company put to good use. Each piece in the show is one of a kind, assembled by hand, work of art.
